Man Stepped In Front Of Metra Train: Police
Authorities said the man killed on the train tracks near Barrington stepped onto the tracks before the southbound train hit him.

BARRINGTON, IL – A man is dead after being struck by a Metra train on the Union Pacific Northwest line on Tuesday morning, authorities said. The incident occurred on the Metra tracks near Route 14 and Taylor Street in unincorporated Barrington. Train #606 struck the pedestrian at about 5:56 a.m., authorities said.
The man killed was an "older male" but his identity is not currently being released, Lake County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Sara Balmes said. The incident, which involved a southbound train, occurred between the Fox River Grove and Barrington Metra stations. Witnesses said the man walked onto the train tracks in front of the approaching Metra train, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
The engineer was unable to stop the train and the train struck the man, police said.

The incident halted outbound and inbound Metra traffic on Tuesday morning and caused extensive delays. Metra traffic has since resumed.
The fatality remains under investigation.
