ALGONQUIN, IL — The majority of students in the state's sixth largest school district will continue learning from home until January. The District 300 Board of Education voted Tuesday to keep remote learning in place for grades 4 through 12 until the second semester begins next year, according to the Northwest Herald.

Meanwhile, its youngest students in kindergarten through third grade will start back as soon is safely possible — though a specific date has not yet been set — under a hybrid model, according to the article. D300 officials say its younger students, who have been struggling the most with remote learning, will benefit from in-person instruction during this "pivotal" time in their education.

Several parents and students rallied outside the District 300 central office in Algonquin on Tuesday ahead of the school board meeting, calling on administrators to find a way to get children back into the classrooms.
