Naprapathic Services

Last week we talked what is Naprapathy.  This week let’s take that a step further and look at what services you can expect when you see me and what they do for you.

What exact services do I offer as a Naprapath to my patients?  I will give you a short list and a short description for each one to help you understand what exactly it is that I do with my patients.

Naprapathic connective tissue manipulation:

Soft tissue and connective tissue manipulation is one of the foundations of Naprapathy.  I am highly skilled in the delivery of all Naprapathic techniques.  I offer cervical, thoracic, lumber and pelvic areas as well as extremities manipulations.  These specific adjustments help align the spine and reposition the constricted fascial and connective tissues allowing for the body to re-align itself and be in balance and harmony.

Electrotherapy:

Muscle stimulation used to relieve pain and muscle sprains/strains and to promote therapeutic muscle relaxation.  This is the use of a weak electrical current through the muscles.  It helps with pain management, joint mobility, tissue repair, the decrease of inflammation and the restoration of blood flow.

Neuromuscular Reeducation:

A therapeutic method used to improve balance, posture, coordination and promote healing of the soft tissue. These techniques attempt to retrain the neuromuscular system to function properly. The basis of this idea is that the formation of certain patterns of communication between muscles and nerves allow people to perform simple everyday acts such as climbing stairs. These normal patterns of movement can be disrupted by injuries or may be impaired in people with certain medical conditions. The general aim is either to re-establish normal patterns of movement in injured people or to create normal patterns of movement in disabled people, by practicing a variety of exercises.

PNF:  Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation stretching:

These are stretching techniques commonly used in clinical environments to enhance both active and passive range of motion with the ultimate goal being to optimize motor performance and rehabilitation. The PNF technique is the optimal stretching method when the aim is to increase range of motion, especially in short-term changes. Generally an active PNF stretch involves a shortening contraction of the opposing muscle to place the target muscle on stretch. This is followed by an isometric contraction of the target muscle. PNF can be used to supplement daily stretching and is employed to make quick gains in range of motion to help improve performance.

Nutritional Counseling:

Nutrition is the foundation and key to all health. I say garbage in then garbage out in terms of what you eat.  If you do not eat well you do not supply your body with the proper basic building blocks it needs to be healthy and maintain that health.   Hippocrates said “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”  Nothing could be truer.  I do comprehensive nutritional counseling.  I base our nutritional counseling on symptoms, conditions and testing done.  I tailor each nutritional program to each individual.  I use the best quality professional formulas and supplements that can only be found at your healthcare professional, such as Standard Process. We work with all nutritional needs, weight loss, gluten sensitivities, heart health, bone health, glucose and insulin balancing, and all other nutritional needs.

Laser:

Laser stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.  Low level laser therapy or LLLT is a photochemical effect comparable to photosynthesis in plants where light is absorbed to exert a chemical change. Four physiological events occur when using LLLT or therapeutic photobiomodulation, they are:

Pain relief

Reduced inflammation

Increased circulation

Increased Cellular metabolic activity

There have been a large number of both animal and clinical studies that demonstrate highly beneficial LLLT effects on a variety of diseases, injuries and both chronic and acute conditions. Laser therapy is incredibly effective and painless.  I use a class IV laser and the results are fantastic.

KT Taping:

Is an Elastic Cotton Tape that is hypoallergenic.  The way the tape is place and the way it is stretched will inhibit or facilitate the muscles it is being placed on thus giving support where needed.  It will increase lymphatic flow and blood flow, relieve swelling of injuries and aid in healing.  KT tape placement helps align muscle properly and vie them the support they need.

Those are the major services I offer at Natural Expressions Naprapathy and Wellness.  Often a combination of these different treatments will be just what the doctor ordered!

You can contact me to ask questions about any of them in depth.  In the meant time stay safe and dry out there in this wet, flooding weather.  And be careful if you are trying to move slush and ice around.  Don’t bend and twist when lifting.  Use your knees and bend straight at the waist.  It is the twisting that causes the most problems.  Until next week, stay healthy and be well.
