New Emergency Alert System Now Available for Lake in the Hills Residents

Residents can sign up to receive local alerts and real time public safety messages through Nixle.

The Lake in the Hills Police Department has partnered with Nixle to implement its Community Notification System to alert residents in real-time for localized emergency situations and relevant community advisories, according to a village of Lake in the Hills press release.

As a resident, there are several simple ways to register:

  1. Text your ZIPCODE to 888777 from your mobile phone
  2. Go to this website and sign up via the Nixle Widget

Once registered, residents will receive a confirmation text to their mobile device. Residents may also customize their alert settings by going to www.nixle.com and creating a User Profile.

“The GeoCast Web Reverse Notification System (reverse 911 calling), which is currently in use, will be discontinued on June 30, 2016. We are urging our community to sign up for Nixle to receive important notifications, alerts, and messages regarding what is happening in and around Lake in the Hills and McHenry County,” said Officer Amanda Schmitt, Public Information Officer, Lake in the Hills Police Department.

All alerts will be targeted geographically, allowing residents to receive localized, relevant alerts from The Lake in the Hills Police Department.
