Aldi will open in the location, bringing its new prototype. The store will be larger, include a meat counter and a larger liquor department.

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL - The long-vacant former Dominick's at Randall and Algonquin roads will soon get a new grocery store. A 22,000-square-foot Aldi will open in the space, bringing its new prototype to that store. The store will be larger than a typical Aldi store and will include a meat counter and more selections liquor department, Economic Development Coordinator George Hahne told the Northwest Herald Tuesday.

Dominick's formerly occupied the 80,000-square-foot store. The grocer closed in 2014.

There has been interestover the years from grocery stores but a lease between the shopping center's owner, LNR Property, and Albertsons, the parent company of Jewel-Osco, prevented any deals from moving forward, Hahne told the Northwest Herald. That lease ended on April 30.
