Not Just Pancakes at Georgia's Pancake House

Annie and family visit the newly-opened restaurant located off Randall Road.

Last weekend, our Fourth of July plans unraveled at the last minute and we found ourselves spending time at home instead of traveling to visit friends. On Sunday afternoon, I rounded up the family and we headed out for an early dinner followed by our weekly grocery shopping.

We decided to have dinner at Georgia’s Restaurant Pancake House, 1470 South Randall Road, Algonquin. Georgia’s is located in the old IHOP building in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

We arrived at Georgia’s Restaurant around 4:45 p.m. and were seated immediately at a five-top table on the right side of the restaurant.

Georgia’s is very homey and the owners have done a fantastic job taking the “IHOP” out of the décor.  If you did not know the restaurant was once an IHOP, you would never know it by looking at it now.

As we looked over our menus, we placed our beverage orders, including an Arnold Palmer, which brought much joy to my 14-year-old daughter, McKenzie. The menu is plentiful and there is something for even the pickiest eater. The kids’ menu is on a game and puzzle-filled placemat that included chicken fingers, peanut butter & jelly and macaroni & cheese.

The little kids stepped out of the box and ordered spaghetti—with the sauce on the side—and a peanut butter & jelly sandwich. McKenzie and I decided to both order sandwiches and split them. I ordered a tuna salad sandwich and she ordered a chicken salad sandwich.  My husband decided to go with breakfast, and ordered the jalapeno skillet with marble rye toast.

McKenzie and I were lucky because our sandwiches came with soup. She asked for the lemon chicken rice and I had the french onion.

Both soups were really fantastic.  A few of my friends have dubbed me "The Soup Queen" because I can make a mean soup. The first time I ate at Georgia’s, I had the cream of mushroom soup, which was just as good, if not better, than my own.

McKenzie really liked her chicken salad sandwich and I really enjoyed my tuna sandwich. We wished we had not switched halves because we did not love each other’s choices.

Tom loved his Jalapeno Skillet and is already talking about going back again to have another one. Logan devoured his PB & J and all of his fries and most of my fries, as well.  Piper made a huge dent in her spaghetti noodles, but did not finish them.

The service at Georgia’s is fantastic. Logan spilled his drink while trying to get the straw into his cup and they were really quick to clean it up, after they checked to make sure he did not spill any on himself.

Georgia’s Restaurant Pancake House is a really great place to dine. I would like to see this restaurant make it in a tough restaurant town, so visit them often.

We give Georgia’s Restaurant Pancake House  4.5 out of 5 stars!
