Pilot Killed When Plane Goes Down In McHenry County

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A pilot was killed when a single-engine plane crashed near Galt Airport in Wonder Lake Friday evening.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are now investigating the collision, which happened at about 5:15 p.m., according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office news release.

The pilot and sole occupant of the plane, an EA-300 LC plane, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

The identity of the pilot has not yet been released. Officials with the NTSB said the aircraft was expected to be delivery to an off-site facility Sunday as a probe continues into the crash.

Officials could not share the probable cause of the accident as an investigation into the incident is ongoing, Sarah Taylor Sulick, public affairs specialist with the National Transportation Safety Board told Patch in an email response Monday.
