Tadelman Leads In Sheriff's Primary; Park District Proposition Fails
Unofficial results from Tuesday's primary election also show Mary Mahady leading in the McHenry County Clerk's Office democratic primary.
MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — Following Tuesday's primary, current undersheriff Rob Tadelman has a clear lead in the race to become the next sheriff in McHenry County.
According to unofficial results, Rob Tadelman had 16,786 or 59.48 percent of the vote tally in the Republican primary race as of early Wednesday. Antonio "Tony" Calartorti had 11,433 votes or 40.52 percent of the vote total.
Tadelman has been with the McHenry County Sheriff's Office since 2004. He started as a patrol deputy and was promoted over the years, becoming a lieutenant in 2017 before advancing to deputy chief of operations and then chief of operations for the sheriff's office.

He was recently promoted to undersheriff, which makes him second in charge at the sheriff's office. The top cop at the sheriff's office, current Sheriff Bill Prim, announced earlier this year he'd be retiring at the end of his term.
Tadelman is currently poised to run unopposed in the Nov. 8 general election. There are currently no democratic candidates who have announced they'd run for office.

Crystal Lake Park District Proposition
Early results show Crystal Lake Park District voters did not support a proposition requesting a change in the length of terms for park board commissioners. Park District officials requested the referendum, asking voter to consider having commissioners serve four instead of six years on the board.
As of early Wednesday, 5,463 park district residents voted down the measure while 2,102 were in favor of it, according to unofficial results.
County Clerk's Race
Unofficial results show Mary Mahady is on track for a landslide win over Andrew "Drew" J. Georgi Jr. in the democratic primary for the McHenry County Clerk's Office race. Mahady had 80.51 percent of the total vote, which amounted to 10,950 votes, compared to Georgi's 2,717 votes.
The winner will face current McHenry County Clerk Joe Tirio in the November general election.
Vote tallies from Tuesday's primary do not include provisional and late arriving vote by mail ballots.
This year's primary date was switched from March 15 to June 28 after Illinois lawmakers passed a bill to move it back due to a delay in Census data information being released because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is the latest a primary election has been held in Illinois in nearly 100 years.
With the move in the primary date, McHenry County Clerk Joe Tirio said in recent weeks he was concerned over how low early voting tallies were, according to the Northwest Herald. Those numbers have increased in recent days and as of Monday morning, about 8,000 votes have been cast in McHenry County.
“It’s picked up the past few days,” he told the Northwest Herald. “It was really, really low. … I was concerned, but we seem to be headed back in the right direction.”
Following Tuesday's primary, that number increased to 46,635 votes being cast in the county, which amounts to 19.36 percent of total registered voters making it out to the polls.
