Search Turns Up 3 Kilos of Heroin, Valued at $400,000, in Carpentersville Home

CARPENTERSVILLE, IL - Bond has been set $4 million for two Carpentersville men after a search of two homes this past week turned up three kilograms of heroin. The street value of the heroin seized during the searches is about $400,000, authorities said on Friday.
Mario Betancourt, 37, and Misael Oropez, 31, both of Carpentersville, have each been charged with manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance-heroin/900 grams or more and possession of a controlled substance-heroin/900 grams or more, according to a news release from the Carpentersville Police Department.

The charges come after the Carpentersville Police Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency searched a home located between the 0 to 100 block of Wren Road on Wednesday. During that search, authorities found two kilograms of heroin, according to police.

A second search was conducted in the 2100 block of Morningside Lane where an addition kilo of heroin and $10,000 in cash was seized, according to the news release.
Both Betancourt and Oropez remained in custody Friday afternoon. They are next expected in court on April 5.
