Soiled Rags, Paint Brushes to Blame for Algonquin Fire
Local firefighters responded to and quickly put out the blaze within a commercial building on Harrison Street on Wednesday night.

ALGONQUIN, IL - Dirty paint brushes and rags in a plastic container spontaneously caught fire, causing a small blaze Wednesday night within a commercial building in Algonquin Wednesday morning, fire officials told the Daily Herald.
The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District were dispatched for a fire alarm at 427 South Harrison Street in Algonquin at 11:19 p.m. on Wednesday, according to a news release from the fire district.
When fire crews arrived, they found a light industrial type building with smoke showing.

Firefighters investigated the building and found the small fire in a paint/staining room. Crews remained on the scene until 1:30 a.m. investigating and ventilating the business.
Fire officials said major fire damage was avoided due to a properly working fire alarm system that quickly notified the fire department.

No one was injured in the blaze.
The building is still inhabitable and the fire caused less than $500 in damage, according to the Daily Herald.
