Son's Quest To Change Dad's Diet Leads To Health Food Stores

ALGONQUIN, IL — A Lake in the Hills man decided to take matters into his own hands when medications didn't seem to help his father's battle with depression, stress, insomnia and digestive problems.

So, Umar Ahmad began looking into holistic health counseling and, with the assistance from doctors, helped his dad change his diet, by consuming more raw vegetables, green juices and fruit smoothies, according to the Daily Herald. As his dad's health improved dramatically, and he was able to get off most of his medications, Ahmad decided to open a health food store, Organic Rootz.

Organic Rootz now has locations in Algonquin, at 1202 s. Main St., and Barrington, at 215 N. Hough Street.

The health food store serves up a variety of smoothies, cold-pressed organic juice, and wraps and sandwiches. The full menu can be found online and the store delivers with DoorDash and Grubhub.
