Special Education District of McHenry County Announces Layoffs

The Special Education District of McHenry County has announced it intends to eliminate 122 positions by the end of this school year, according to the Northwest Herald. 

Last year, SEDOM eliminated 63 positions and recalled 59 of those employees and in 2011, 89 positions were eliminated and 65 were later recalled, according to the Northwest Herald. 

SEDOM works with eighteen area school districts, including districts 47, 155, 158, and 26, according to the SEDOM website. 

SEDOM was formed in 1965 to meet the needs of students with unique educational needs.  In addition, it is the purpose of SEDOM to provide special education leadership in McHenry County, according to the SEDOM website.
