Are These Cheerleaders’ Skirts Too Short for School?: The top-read story on Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Patch from this past year had to do with the length of chearleaders skirts at District 300 schools after the district’s superintendent decided to ban cheerleaders from wearing their skirts to school.
  2. Houlihan’s in Algonquin Turns Away Veteran With Service Dog Over Memorial Day Weekend: Houlihan’s in Algonquin faced plenty of backlash after the restaurant turned away an army veteran and his service dog over Memorial Day weekend in 2015.
  3. Baby Bear Cub’s Death at Goebbert’s Farm Sparks Public Outrage: There was a public outcry after a bear cub died at Goebbert’s Farm in South Barrington.
  4. Man Arrested for Fifth DUI After Following 3 Girls, Bumping 2 Cars on Randall: Police said the man followed three girls in a car from Huntley to Elgin.
  5. Lake in the Hills Police Investigate String of Home Burglaries: Lake in the Hills Police investigated a string of home burglaries in January of 2015.
  6. Health Inspector Shuts Down Charity Lemonade Stand, Mom Says: A McHenry County health inspector closed down a lemonade stand this past year in Crystal Lake, citing concerns over a lack of a canopy and hand washing station.
  7. Suburban Man With Fancy, Cubs-Inspired Man Cave Ready for Big Win Tonight: This local man got a good amount of media attention when the Cubs were in the NLCS.
  8. Coroner Identifies Men Killed in Lake in the Hills Crash: Two Men died following a crash at Oak Street and Pyott Road in October.
  9. Lawsuit: Algonquin Teen’s Arm Amputated Following Raging Buffalo Ski Lift Accident: The local teen was forced to have his arm amputated following the incident at Raging Buffalo in 2014.
  10. Car Seat Safety Instructor, Former Cop Charged With Setting Trash Can, Mailbox Fires: A traffic safety liason for the Illinois Department of Transportation -- whose responsibilities included instructing expectant parents on how to safely install car seats -- has been charged with setting a string of unsolved fires in Algonquin.
