1 Man Dead in Alsip Towing Company Shooting; Second Man In Stable Condition

A 76-year-old Orland Park man died of his wounds after Tuesday's shooting at Ray's Towing and Recovery in Alsip, police said.

ALSIP, IL — A man has died and another man remains hospitalized after both were found shot at an Alsip towing company Tuesday afternoon. Mohamed Salhis, 76, of Orland Park, was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center. A 43-year-old man is in stable condition.

Alsip police responded to Ray’s Towing and Recovery Service at 127th Street and Pulaski Road just after 1 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a disturbance. A witness, whom police also consider a battery victim, told arriving offers that two people were shot inside the business and that the suspect fled.

The suspect was taken into custody by Oak Lawn police when officers spotted the suspect’s vehicle in the area. Police said the suspect ignored a traffic stop and drove to Evergreen Park, where he bailed out of his vehicle and started running. The suspect was apprehended following a brief foot chase, police said in a news release.

Alsip Police Chief Chief Jay Miller said both men were owners and employees of the towing company. An autopsy for the dead man is scheduled for Wednesday at the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. The suspect in custody has not yet been charged, police said.
