Alleged Check Forger Spelled Company's Name Wrong on Fake Checks: Prosecutor

Chicago Ridge man spelled the word realty "r-e-a-l-i-t-y," prosecutor said.

ALSIP, IL -- A Chicago Ridge resident was arrested after a nearly six-month investigation into fraudulent checks cashed at an Alsip currency exchange, prosecutors said.

Kendall Williams, 32, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on a deceptive practice charge.

Williams went to the Alsip Currency Exchange, 4843 W. 111th St. several times during the months of July and August 2016. Williams allegedly cashed eight checks made payable to himself totaling $6,200, the prosecutor said.

According to the charges, The checks included the routing number of a legitimate real estate company. The word “realty” was misspelled “r-e-a-l-i-t-y” on the checks.

The real estate company said that Williams did not work them and they never gave him permission to use the company’s checks.

Bail was set at $62,000. Williams’ next court date is set for Jan. 18 in Bridgeview.
