Alsip Hosts Birthday Bash This Sunday For Illinois's Bicentennial

Celebrate our favorite state's 200th birthday this Sunday, Aug. 26 in Alsip featuring food, music, Civil War reenactments and more.

ALSIP, IL -- The Village of Alsip is hosting a bicentennial birthday bash for Illinois this Sunday, Aug. 26. Join in the festivities from 1 to 5 p.m. behind Prairie Junior High School located at 11910 S. Kostner Ave. in Alsip. The village, Alsip-Merrionette Park Public Library, Alsip fire and police departments, the Alsip Park District and Districts 125 and 126 have been planning the celebration for months.

Illinois turns 200 this year and the celebration salutes the state’s important historical milestones along with the entire village of Alsip. The afternoon features the Jesse White Tumblers, historic military reenactments by the 1st Michigan Engineers and Mechanics Co. E and the 2nd Illinois Light Artillery Battery, a complimentary photo booth, and free hot dogs, sno cones and sweet corn (while supplies last), ans musical entertainment by the New Serendipity Singers and Steve Justman. Taco Burrito King will also be selling Mexican inspired cuisine.
