ALSIP, IL -- The Alsip Park District and Alsip Fire Department will perform a controlled burn around the pond at Commissioners Park the week of May 13, pending weather conditions. This controlled burn will last about a day. Commissioners Park is the only location scheduled for controlled burning.

The burn is intended to reduce invasive vegetation around the pond perimeter as well as serve as a training exercise for the Alsip Fire Department, which will supervise the burn in accordance with Illinois EPA guidelines. Residents can expect to see lingering and drifting smoke in the area for several days.

Alsip firefighters and their equipment will be working in the area on the day of the burn and will remain on site until the burn is declared out. For everyone’s safety, residents are asked to stay away from Commissioners Park on the day the burn is conducted.
