Coyotes Go For The Gold in Special Olympics Illinois State Games

SWSRA's Special Olympics Coyotes basketball team has set up a GoFundMe campaign to help send the players to ISU to compete in state games.

ALSIP, IL -- The South West Special Recreation Association Coyotes basketball team is going for the gold in the Special Olympics Illinois’ state games next month at Illinois State University. The Coyotes earned a chance to compete in the games by taking first place in an area tournament. Each player and coach, however, must pay their own transportation, food and lodging costs.

A Go Fund Me campaign has been established to help send the team of 15 players and three volunteer coaches to Normal, IL, if they can raise enough funds by Feb. 20. The SWSRA basketball program allows athletes to compete during the regular season and two local tournaments, but unfortunately does not include the costs of traveling to the state games.

The Coyotes are trying to raise $5,000 to compete in the state games which are being held March 16 through March 18. Any amount over their goal will be used to purchase equipment, supplies and enhance other SWSRA special recreation programs, including bowling, volleyball, softball, and track and field for individuals age 8 and up with disabilities.
