Crestwood Cops Looking Into White Supremacist Fliers: Mayor

Mayor Lou Presta isn't sure why Crestwood is being targeted by white supremacist and nationalist groups.

CRESTWOOD, IL -- More white supremacist literature was found on car windshields at a Crestwood shopping center. A flier from the “ANP” -- American Nazi Party -- was found on cars parked near a restaurant.

The flier offered an “ANP info pack” for a $5 donation, with a Westfield, MI post office box. The recent proliferation of white supremacist literature left many residents on the Village of Crestwood Facebook Page with a range of emotions from ambivalence to anger.

Shoppers at Rivercrest Shopping Center, 13120 Cal Sag Road, began finding the literature this week. A woman told news media that a man yelled a racial slur at her as she walked back to her vehicle. The most recent flier was found on a car outside Portillo’s. Mayor Lou Presta told Patch the village and that police were investigating.

“We’re not sure what is going on or why Crestwood is being targeted,” Presta said. “Police are handling it. They’re working with the shopping center.”

The American Nazi Party was among the white nationalist and supremacist groups that praised President-elect Donald Trump’s appointment of former Breitbart-executive Stephen Bannon as a White House strategist.

Presta cautioned residents of the right to speak freely without censorship or restraint.

“People do put fliers on cars,” the mayor said. “We are investigating it. We’re against those groups. There’s no doubt about it.”
