Crestwood's Postal Customers Sing The 'New ZIP Code' Blues

CRESTWOOD, IL -- After rejoicing Crestwood’s new ZIP Code, some residents are finding the transition to be a bit bumpy. Residents on the Village of Crestwood Facebook page have complained of having the village’s new 60418 digits rejected by banks, utility companies and when making online purchases. As annoying as it might be, Congressman Bobby Rush said Crestwood’s postal customers cannot go back to using the Midlothian ZIP Code.

The U.S. Postal Service fully implemented the new Crestwood ZIP Code that immediately took effect on July 1, 2017. Mail carrying the village’s former Midlothian ZIP Code will still be delivered to Crestwood’s postal customers through June 30, 2018. For those who’ve asked if they have to notify all their correspondence of the new ZIP Code -- the answer is yes.

“The U.S. Postal Service will continue to … give the Crestwood customers time to notify correspondence of their new ZIP Code,” USPS spokeswoman Beverly Howard said via email. “The Crestwood customers received their notification of the new ZIP Code 60418 [in May]. Upon receipt of the letter the Crestwood customer should have began notifying their correspondence.”

It’s going to fall upon Crestwood postal customers to spread the word about the new ZIP code among vendors (banks, utilities, credit card companies, online services, etc.) to update their mailing lists to show the new Crestwood ZIP Code. The village’s postal companies should tell vendors to do the following:

• Visit the Postal Service’s external website usps.com to see the updated Crestwood ZIP Code 60418.
• Send a copy of the official USPS notification customers received in May to the business for confirmation of the new Crestwood ZIP Code.

As annoying as it might be, Crestwood’s postal customers cannot go back to using the Midlothian ZIP Code. The village’s residents and businesses need to use the new 60418 ZIP Code.
