'Disloyal' Employee Charged With Writing Fake Invoices: Prosecutor

Prosecutor said Alsip food distribution company is out $5,531 for products that were never delivered.

ALSIP, IL -- An employee of an Alsip food distribution company was arrested after he forged various invoices for products that were never delivered, prosecutors said.

Antonio Vazquez, 30, appeared before Cook County Judge Donald Havis on charges of theft. He was employed by Yoli, Inc., at 4251 W. 129 St., Alsip.

Between Dec. 30, 2015 and March 17, 2016, Vazquez created $5,351 in fake invoices for products on his company truck which were never delivered, the prosecutor said.

In July 2016, the prosecutor said that Vazquez’s wife tried to cover the amount by writing a check that was later returned for insufficient funds. A few weeks later, Vazquez was reportedly confronted by the company president about the missing product and funds.

Vazquez promised the president he would pay the company back, but he never did, the prosecutor said. Vazquez’s company truck was later found in the food distributor’s parking lot with checks made payable to the company and a “pile of invoices” and other items inside it.

He was arrested on Feb. 6 and charged with theft. Vazquez’s attorney said his client has been working for a another food distributor.

Bail was set at $5,000. The judge also ordered Vazquez to remain on electronic home monitoring if he bonds out.

Vazquez’s next hearing is Feb, 28 in Bridgeview.
