Driver Charged With DUI In Crash That Injured Crestwood Cop

A 65-year-old Indiana man is charged in a traffic crash that critically injured a Crestwood police officer, who remains hospitalized.

CRESTWOOD, IL – A 65-year-old Indiana man is charged with aggravated driving under the influence in connection with a traffic crash that left a Crestwood police officer critically injured. Gregory Hilson appeared Tuesday for a bond hearing at the Bridgeview Courthouse.

Around 8 a.m. on Nov. 20, a gray Kia struck the police vehicle when the officer went to retrieve some paper work while investigating an unrelated traffic accident. The driver, later identified as Hilson, plowed into the back of the police vehicle, striking the officer, according to police.

The officer remains hospitalized at Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition.

Cook County Sheriff’s Police detectives investigated this incident at the request of Crestwood Police. During their investigation, detectives learned that Hilson was under the influence at the time of the crash, prosecutors said. Hilson also remains hospitalized for an unrelated medical condition.

Bail was set at 50,000. Hilson is due back in court Nov. 29 in Bridgeview.
