Felons Flee Cemetery After Pointing Gun At Funeral Attendee: Cops
A child in the fleeing SUV suffered a broken leg when the escape attempt led to a crash, police said.

ALSIP, IL — A pair of convicted felons led police on a car chase after one of them pointed a gun at another man during a funeral procession, prosecutors said. Deeric Stevens and Tyrone Davis, both 30-year-old Chicago residents, appeared before Cook County Judge Terry Gallagher on felony charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated fleeing and eluding, and two counts of causing a child to be injured.
Alsip police responded to a call of a possible aggravated assault around 2:30 p.m. on March 30 at Restvale Cemetery. When officers arrived, a witness pointed to two attendees, later identified as Davis and Stevens, getting into an SUV, with Davis in the driver’s seat. As police tried to stop the SUV inside the cemetery, the prosecutor said that Davis refused to stop and instead fled the cemetery.
The vehicle continued to drive at a high rate of speed westbound down 115th Street to Pulaski with Alsip police in pursuit. The driver allegedly ignored emergency lights and sirens and continued to drive in a “reckless manner and with a complete disregard for the safety of those around him,” police said in a news release.

The officers terminated the chase, but moments later, police learned that the SUV had crashed into a light pole at 111th Street and Pulaski, where Davis and Stevens allegedly got out the SUV and started running. One of the suspects ran behind a bar, the prosecutor said, where patrons pointed out the fleeing man’s hiding place to police. Both men were taken into custody.
During a search of the SUV, two 2-year-old children were located in the back seat. The prosecutor said one of the children had suffered a broken femur. A further search of the vehicle turned up four guns and a magazine, reportedly belonging to Stevens. All the guns were loaded and had been reported stolen, the prosecutor said.

Davis has four felonies, including serving one year for unlawful use of a weapon and seven years for armed robbery. Stevens is currently on parole for a federal drug case and also received an eight-year sentence for robbery.
“I find both of you to be a danger to society,” the judge said.
Davis’s bail was set at $100,000, who was charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding, two counts of causing a child to be injured, and seven additional charges. Stevens, who is facing four counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, according to court documents, is being held without bond. Both are due back in court April 26 in Bridgeview.
