'Ghost Gun' Found In Bullet-Riddled Car Where 2 Were Shot: COPS

The two people were shot in a car in Alsip and were later found in Oak Lawn trying to drive themselves to the hospital, police said.

ALSIP, IL — A man and a woman from Robbins are recovering in the hospital after both were found shot in their car Wednesday afternoon. Police are calling the shooting an isolated incident. A ghost gun was also found in their wounded man’s bullet-riddled car, Alsip police said.

Alsip police swarmed the area of 123rd Street and Springfield Avenue around 4:40 p.m. for a report of gunfire. Officers found more than a dozen spent .40- and .45-caliber casings at 123rd Street at Hamlin and Springfield avenues. No injured persons were found at the scene.

Witnesses described another vehicle possibly involved in the shooting, a gold Chevy Cruz with tinted windows.

Around the same time, Oak Lawn police responded to a call of a vehicle facing the wrong direction near 105th Street and Pulaski Road. Oak Lawn officers found a man and woman in their 20s sitting in a Ford Fusion riddled with seven bullet holes, who had apparently tried to drive to the hospital. Both had suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds to the chest and stomach, police said. The man and women were transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center.

The Oak Lawn officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun under the Ford Fusion’s driver's seat, described it as a “ghost gun” because it had no serial number, making it untraceable, police said. Neither had a license to own nor carry a firearm.

The investigation continues. Anyone who saw or has information about the shooting is asked to call the Alsip Police Department at 708-385-6902, extension 272.
