Michael J. Murphy Music Scholarship Fundraising Benefit Nov. 18
Drinks, food and fun planned to celebrate the life and legacy of Murph's Gift of Music

The Michael J. Murphy Music Scholarship Fund (also known as Murph’s Gift of Music) will hold its fifth bi-annual fundraiser on November 18, 2017 at 115 Bourbon Street in Merrionette Park from 3 to 8 p.m. No RSVP is required, and all are welcome to this special evening.
All ages are encouraged to come enjoy live music from A Week Back and Friends, Uncle Bob’s Band, and The Larkin and Moran Brothers. Food and drinks will be served, and all are invited to participate in raffles and silent auctions taking place over the course of the evening.
The fund was created to honor Michael (Murph) Murphy who died in 2008 at the age of 31 after being struck down by a hit-and-run driver. Murph was a talented and beloved guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and guitar teacher. His original band, Leave, released three widely-acclaimed albums, and he also taught at the Music School in Oak Lawn.
His family and friends are keeping their commitment to keep Murph’s devotion to music alive by giving the gift of music to other young students who share his passion but lack the financial means to pursue it.
This 501(c)3 non-profit organization has been providing music lessons and instruments since 2010 to students in the Southwest Chicago area that come from families that struggle financially. Since the Fund began, 245 young musicians, dancers and singers have been awarded scholarships that consist of up to 30 private lessons and an instrument if needed.
