Sertoma Centre's 'Super Sale' Features Thousands of Brand Name Housewares

Sertoma's will thousands of innovative home products from International Home & Housewares Show at annual super sale fundraiser, April 29-30.

ALSIP, IL -- Sertoma Centre Inc. is holding a sale to end all sales this weekend, April 29 and April 30, featuring thousands of name-brand housewares and decor. The Sertoma Super Sale will be held at the former Dominick’s store at 6401 W. 127th St. (127th Street and Ridgeland Avenue), in Palos Heights. The sale runs both days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For the past 13 years, Sertoma has been invited along with a few other non-profit organizations to the International Home & Housewares Show at McCormick Place to solicit and pack up vendors’ wares and sell them to the public. Every item for sale at Sertoma’s Super Sale is brand new, featuring such well-known brand names as Oyster, Sunbeam, Gibson, Cordon Bleu and Rachel Ray, to name a few of many.

Sertoma works to empower persons with disabilities to achieve personal success and lead independent lives. The organization offers an array of services including residential, business, employment, home-based and supported living programs.

“Because of the budget stalemate in Springfield, our organization is going through a deficit,” Sertoma spokeswoman Ericka Moore said. “

Shoppers will find a variety of home furnishings, from kitchen and dining ware to living rooms decor and bathware. The Super Sale also features smalls appliances, furniture, gadgets and tools -- all of it stylish, contemporary and innovative. Volunteers have been working around the clock to set everything up. Last year’s Super Sale attracted 3,000 bargain hunters.

“We have thousands of items for sale. The whole store is completely filled,” Moore said. “Last year we raised $70,000. This year, Sertoma’s fundraising goal is $100,000.”

Sertoma has also added several more features to make the shopping experience more pleasant and convenient based on past feedback. More checkout lines have been added, including a cash-only line, 10 items or less express line, in addition to the regular cash and credit card lines. Checkout lines will also stream to the back of the store to avoid further crowding. Additional parking will be located at Shepard High School, 13049 S. Ridgeland Ave., Palos Heights, with free shuttle service to and from the store.
