Tax Refunds, Exemptions Recovered For Crestwood Residents

More than 1,000 Crestwood property owners may be due tax refunds from the Cook County Treasurer's Office.

CRESTWOOD, IL — More than 1,000 property owners in the Village of Crestwood may be due property tax refunds from the Cook County Treasurer’s Office, Mayor Lou Presta announced. Presta has issued a request to Maria Pappas’s office to determine determine if Crestwood properties currently have available refunds or missing exemptions for the year 2017 or earlier. Some property owners may be due refunds ranging from $10 to many thousands of dollars.

“As mayor of Crestwood, I have a responsibility to our residents to maintain the prosperity of our Village and its way of life,” Mayor Presta said in a news release. “By recovering these funds from the Cook County Treasurer, we bring measurable opportunity to Crestwood. A large number of property owners in the Village qualifying for exemptions and refunds will experience a windfall that will be a boon for our local economy.”

Crestwood property owners are advised to compare their property index numbers (PIN) with those that will be published in the October edition of the Crestwood Adviser, along with the refunds owed and information detailing whether or not an exemption is owed, and for which years. An application for refund form is available online and will also be included in the October edition of Crestwood Adviser. Qualifying residents are encouraged to complete the form and submit it to the address on the application.
