Warrant Issued For Caregiver Accused Of Exploiting Elderly Woman

The family of an elderly woman claims her caregiver used her credit cards to buy cigarettes, coffee and a TV, a detective told the judge.

ALSIP, IL — A 35-year-old caregiver is wanted by police after being accused of ripping off an elderly Alsip woman. Alsip police were in court Wednesday seeking an arrest warrant for Alicea Corie on a felony charge of financial exploitation of the elderly.

The detective told the judge that the 75-year-old woman’s cousin volunteered her step daughter, Corie, to take care of the woman after her husband died. Police said from July 23, 2016, to Sept. 8, 2017, Corie used the woman’s credit cards to pay for cigarettes, coffee, car payments and a TV. The woman’s family believes Corie charged $29,000 using the woman’s credit cards, but could only prove $900, the detective said.

Police have checked all of Corie’s past addresses in Crestwood, Lockport and Joliet, as well as former employers, but the detective said they’ve been unable to locate her. A no-bond warrant was issued.
