Windy City Thunderbolts Announce 2022 Schedule

CRESTWOOD, IL — The Windy City ThunderBolts release their 2022 season schedule in the Frontier League. All 16 member teams will be active for the first time since merging with the Can-Am League two years ago, after difficulties with the border forced the three Canadian clubs to sit out last summer.

After starting last season two weeks later than usual, the Frontier League's 96-game slate returns to its traditional place on the calendar. Opening Night 2022 will be Thursday, May 12, as the ThunderBolts begin the year at Ozinga Field against arch rival Joliet Slammers.

The league’s 2022 division structure will return to a two division east/west set-up. The exit of the Southern Illinois Miners forces the return of the Frontier Greys, of Sauget, IL, who will play as a full-time road team.

In addition to the Greys, the east division features New Jersey, New York, Ottawa, Quebec, Sussex County, Tri-City, and Trois-Rivieres. The ThunderBolts will be in the west joined by Evansville, Florence, Gateway, Joliet, Lake Erie, Schaumburg and Washington.

Six teams will make the postseason in the league's revised playoff format. The top three teams in each division advance to the postseason. The second place team will host the 3rd place team in a one-game Wild Card Playoff. The winner of that game will move on to the Division Series to take on the 1st place team in a three-game series for the right to move on to the best-of-five Championship Series.

The schedule format is unbalanced in 2022 as all teams will play every team in the league. Teams will play their divisional foes between 9 and 12 times, while playing the opposite division opponents in at least one three-game series.

Opening Night of the 2022 season will be Thursday, May 12 at 7:05 p.m. against Joliet. Normal game times will continue to be 7:05 pm starts Tuesday through Friday, 6:05 p.m. on Saturday and 2:05 p.m. on Sunday.

The weekday 10:35 a.m. day games are back with eight dates scheduled in 2022. The five School Days are scheduled for May 18, 19, 24th, 25th and 26th. The three Splash Days will be from July 12 to July 14.

The ThunderBolts are pleased to announce that its famous postgame fireworks will return each Friday and Saturday night in 2022. The rest of Bolts’ weekly promotional schedule will be announced very soon. Giveaways and special theme night dates will be announced at a later time.
