Train Strikes Car Near Arlington Park Station: Metra

The early Thursday morning incident involved the last outbound train of the day on the line where the incident occurred, according to Metra.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — A train struck a car on the tracks early Thursday near the Arlington Park station. The incident involving an outbound train on the Union Pacific Northwest Line occurred at around 2 a.m., according to Metra.

In response to a Patch inquiry about a report two people were inside the car when the crash occurred, a Metra spokesperson said no one was in the car at the time of the crash and no one was injured.

Metra confirmed United Pacific Northwest Train 601 was the last outbound train on that line for the day, and the incident near N. Wilke Road occurred at around 1:50 a.m.

"The vehicle was towed from the scene and the train resumed its run at 3:35 a.m. No other trains were impacted," the Metra spokesperson said.

Cardinal News is reporting first responders from the Arlington Heights police and fire departments responded to the incident at around 1:47 a.m. The car involved, which the media outlet said had a driver and passenger inside, flipped upside down after impact.

Cardinal News is also reporting at least two people fled the scene, and Arlington Heights police officers unsuccessfully searched the area for them with a drone and K-9.

In response to the Cardinal News report, a spokesperson for the Arlington Heights Police Department tells Patch the crash investigation is being conducted by Metra police, referring us to them for more information.
