3 Apartments Uninhabitable Following Arlington Heights Fire: Police

An investigation into the cause of the Thursday fire continues, according to the Arlington Heights Police Department.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — No one was injured, but three apartments in a two-story complex are uninhabitable following a Thursday fire in the 300 block of E. Seegers Road. According to the Arlington Heights Police Department, an investigation into the fire continues and a cause has not been determined.

At around 4 p.m., first responders from the police and fire departments were sent to the scene of the fire. It was unknown originally if anyone was injured or trapped inside the complex. The first units reported billowing smoke and flames showing when they arrived.

While police said it appeared the fire originated from a first-floor unit, it had extended to the second floor of the building. The responding police officers were unable to make entry into the apartment where the fire started due to heavy smoke and fire. Firefighters were able to conduct an expediated search and evacuation of the entire building.

All residents were able to vacate the building without any reported injuries, including a 51-year-old female who reportedly lived alone in the unit where the fire originated. She was found outside the complex.

A majority of residents were allowed to return to their homes, while the police department aided those who had been displaced.

Police said due to the substantive size of the fire, additional firefighters from Mount Prospect, Elk Grove, Rolling Meadows, Palatine and Schaumburg assisted in putting out the fire. They were quickly able to put the fire out. Neighboring fire departments in Prospect Heights and Palatine also assisted with taking routine calls for service from the community.

Police said an investigation into the cause and origin of the fire is being conducted by investigators from both the police and fire departments, along with police forensic technicians.
