Father Charged In Death Of 5-Month-Old Child In Mount Prospect

Police say the infant was left unattended for about seven hours before being found unresponsive in December.

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — A 19-year-old Rockford man has been charged in connection with the December death of his 5-month-old child in Mount Prospect, police announced Wednesday.

Kelvin Rudolph was arrested Monday and charged with one felony count of endangering the welfare of a child resulting in death, according to the Mount Prospect Police Department.

The charge stems from the death of the infant on Dec. 19, 2025, at a home in the 500 block of North Elm Street.

Mount Prospect officers responded to a 911 call at about 1:09 p.m. that day for an unresponsive 5-month-old child. The infant was taken to a hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.

Police said an investigation determined Rudolph, the child's father, had left the infant unattended in a bed for about seven hours without checking on him.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office determined the child died from asphyxia caused by an unsafe sleep environment, according to police.

Ordered Detained

Rudolph, of Rockford, appeared Tuesday at a detention hearing.
