32 Firefighters Battle Apartment Blaze In Palatine: Village

One civilian suffered minor injuries from the Monday afternoon fire, according to officials.

PALATINE, IL — A total of 32 firefighters battled a Monday afternoon fire at a three-story apartment complex. According to officials, one civilian suffered minor injuries, but they refused to go to the hospital.

The Palatine Fire Department responded to the building in the 1100 block of E. Prairie Brook Drive at around 3:19 p.m. The first unit reported nothing showing from the front of the complex. The department received an activated fire alarm prior to arrival, and several building residents had been evacuated.

The initial fire crews located the fire in a bedroom closet in an apartment on the second floor. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and then ventilated to remove smoke from the building. Fire damage was contained to a single unit on the second floor, with no extension into any other unit. The fire was declared under control at 3:40 p.m.

Firefighting crews performed searches of all the building to ensure there were no trapped civilians, while other firefighting crews performed overhaul to expose any hidden fire.

No firefighters were injured during this incident. The fire is currently under investigation, and damage estimates are not available at this time.

Officials said 32 firefighters fought the fire, staffing five engines, two ladder trucks, one rescue squad, and five ambulances, which responded to the scene along with four command officers. The Palatine Police Department assisted at the scene with traffic and crowd control.

The Palatine Fire Department is reminding residents to have working smoke alarms in their homes, whether it is a single-family dwelling, an apartment, or a condo.
