70-Year-Old Des Plaines Woman Dies After Accident Crossing Street

Irma Diaz died Sunday from multiple injuries caused by a vehicle hitting her last week.

A Des Plaines woman died Sunday from injuries caused by being hit by a vehicle while crossing the street last week, according to a Chicago Sun-Times report.

Irma Diaz, 70, of the 1600 block of Mill Street, was crossing at the crosswalk at Miner and Pearson streets Thursday, July 23, when she was hit by a vehicle driven by an 88-year-old woman. The driver stayed at the scene after the crash, and the death was ruled an accident, the report added.

Diaz was taken to a Park Ridge hospital after the accident, the report stated. The Cook County medical examiner’s office told the Sun-Times she died at 1:16 p.m. Sunday, July 26, from multiple injuries caused by the crash.

The accident was one of two accidents July 23 at that same location. The second incident involved a 32-year-old woman hitting two teen girls. One was in critical condition as of last week, and the other girl only had minor injuries.
