93-Year-Old Man Dies After Mount Prospect Crash

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — A 93-year-old Chicago man died from injuries sustained in a serious two-vehicle crash Tuesday at Northwest Highway and Mount Prospect Road, police said.

Gerald Meyer was a passenger in a Ford SUV involved in the crash, which was reported at about 10:05 a.m. Aug. 18. Mount Prospect police said officers arrived to find the Ford overturned on its roof in the intersection and a Toyota sedan also involved.

The driver and passenger in the Ford had to be extricated by firefighters and were taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Meyer later died from his injuries.

The Ford's driver, a 75-year-old Arlington Heights woman, sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The Toyota's driver, a 91-year-old Mount Prospect woman, was also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation found that the Toyota was traveling south on Mount Prospect Road and entered the intersection with Northwest Highway, where it collided with the Ford traveling northwest on Northwest Highway, police said.

The impact caused the Ford to roll over and come to rest on its roof.

The intersection was closed during the investigation and reopened at about 3:30 p.m.

The fatal crash remains under investigation by the Mount Prospect Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Team.
