SOUTH ELGIN, IL — Police and the Fox Valley Major Crimes Task Force are conducting a forensic excavation Thursday morning at a home in the 800 block of Revere Road as part of the investigation into the 2016 disappearance of Kianna Galvin.

According to the Kane County State's Attorney's Office, the work follows a scan of the property with ground-penetrating radar, which revealed anomalies beneath the surface that detectives determined warranted further investigation.

The Kane County Office of Emergency Management has closed a portion of Revere Road until the excavation is completed, with no timetable available.

Kianna Galvin was 17 when she disappeared on the afternoon of May 6, 2016. She had told her sister she was going to nearby Jim Hansen Park. Her whereabouts remain unknown.

According to the Cook County Sheriff's Office, Galvin was 5-foot-6, 150 pounds at the time of her disappearance. She was wearing a black tank top, black yoga pants with studs on the outside, brown sunglasses, Nike zebra print flip flops (women's size 9).

Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser addressed the renewed investigative effort in a statement released with the announcement.

“Ten years have passed since Kianna disappeared, and the weight of that loss is still deeply felt by her family, her friends, and this entire community,” Mosser said. “My heart remains with all who continue to carry that pain. We have not forgotten Kianna, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to seek the truth. It is my hope that renewed efforts will finally bring the answers her family deserves. I urge anyone with information, no matter how small it may seem, to come forward and contact the police.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to submit it here with the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
