One Year Later, South Elgin Teen is Still Missing

The past year has been a "living nightmare" for the family of Kianna Galvin. May 6 marked the one year anniversary of her disappearance.

SOUTH ELGIN, IL - It's been one year, and Kianna Galvin is still missing. The first year anniversary of the South Elgin teen's disappearance this past weekend gave local police a reason to again ask for the public's help in providing information that may shed some light on what happened to Kianna, the Elgin Courier-News reports. Galvin, who was 17 years old at the time, was last seen at about 12:30 p.m. on May 6 when she told a family member she was going to walk to Jim Hansen (Concord) Park.

South Elgin Sgt. Mike Doty told the Elgin Courier-News his department and family and friends of Galvin have spent thousands of hours trying to track her down. Police do not think she ran away.

After Kianna's disappearance, police searched a home about a block away, the Daily Herald reports. A neighbor told police they say Kiana go into the home where a friend lived. Police searched the home after obtaining a search warrant but would not comment on what they found - if anything.

The latest search for Kiana happened on April 29 when police went to several areas of the village, including along Route 31 and Stearns Road, according to the Daily Herald.

"As of right now, nothing was found," Doty told the Daily Herald.

The past year has been a "living nightmare,"Kianna's mother Fiona Galvin told NBC Chicago.

"I pray every day that she'll come through the door, and if that doesn't happen, I have to wrap my brain around it being something else that I don't want to believe--but that could be the outcome," Fiona said.

On Saturday, the one-year anniversary of Kianna's disappearance, the Galvins had family and friends over to plant a garden and held a balloon release in honor of Kianna.

Doty said any information the public can provide to either provide closure for Galvin's family or bring her home would be a blessing, the Elgin Courier-News reports.

Galvin, who turned 18 in July, is about 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs 146 pounds and has brown hair and hazel eyes. She has a tattoo on her wrist of a heart and a pulse, according to the Daily Herald.

Anyone with information can contact South Elgin Police Department between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 847-741-2151. After hours, callers can contact Kane County dispatch at 630-232-8400.
