Student Charged After Knives Found At Rolling Meadows High School: Police

ROLLING MEADOWS, IL — An 18-year-old student accused of making a threat at Rolling Meadows High School has been identified and charged with two felonies, police said.

Carlos Barrera, 18, of the 2400 block of Goebbert Road in Arlington Heights, has been charged with one felony count of disorderly conduct and one felony count of unlawful possession of a weapon. He remains in custody, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.

The charges stem from an incident Wednesday evening at Rolling Meadows High School, 2901 Central Road. Rolling Meadows police said officers were called to the school at around 7:20 p.m. for a report of a verbal threat to harm others with a knife.

Officers located and detained Barrera, who was found with two knives in his possession, according to police. The knives were not displayed during the incident, and no students or staff members were injured, police said.

Authorities said the preliminary investigation indicated the incident was isolated, and activities on school grounds were allowed to continue.

The Rolling Meadows Police Department is continuing to work with Rolling Meadows High School and Northwest Suburban High School District 214 as the investigation continues.
