Emergency crews from Arlington Heights responded, and witnesses say at least two people were taken to the hospital while gasoline leaked and debris covered the southwest corner of this busy local arterial.
2. False Alarm: Boeing 747 Cargo Jet Approaches O'Hare Over Arlington Heights with Fire Detector Activation in Lower Belly Cargo Deck, All Runways Closed for Landing (arlingtoncardinal.com) — Residents in Arlington Heights were beneath the flight path Thursday night as a Boeing 747 cargo jet with a fire alarm warning passed over Euclid Avenue en route to an emergency landing at O'Hare. All runways were briefly closed while Chicago Fire Department crews met the plane, but inspections found no signs of fire and the incident was ultimately declared a false alarm.
3. Illinois lawmakers confirm meeting with NFL commissioner as saga over $4.7bn Bears stadium drags on (newsbreak.com) — Arlington Heights remains in the mix as NFL leaders and Illinois officials scramble to keep the Chicago Bears from bolting to a new stadium in Hammond, Indiana. Recent meetings with Commissioner Roger Goodell notably excluded Arlington Heights representatives, even as the former racetrack site and an Indiana proposal compete to replace Soldier Field.
4. 'It's like a family here': Longtime customers mark last call for Durty Nellie's (dailyherald.com) — A longtime Arlington Heights patron joined crowds in Palatine on Sunday to say goodbye to Durty Nellie's, the beloved music venue and bar that helped define downtown nightlife for decades. Regulars swapped stories, toasted favorite staff, and reflected on the community feel as the space prepares to be transformed into a new Big Grove Brewery next year.
