Arlington Heights D25 Parents Uneasy About Special Education Review
A comprehensive review of special education programs and services was discussed at the most recent District 25 board meeting. Parents and teachers expressed unease with recommendations from consulting firm, the Chicago Tribune reports.

A marathon District 25 meeting on Thursday aired concerns, and even angst and discord amongst board members during discussion of a recent comprehensive review of special education services, the Chicago Tribune reports.
A Massachusetts-based firm conducted the review, according to the Chicago Tribune, and found that the roughly 15 percent of the D25 students who receive special education services get more than is required by the federal government, and suggested that more consistency be explored throughout the school district.
The report, which was aimed at identifying cost-saving measures, was viewed by at least by one parent as a possible threat to the services currently provided to children.

"This has implications not only for special education students, but also general education students, staff, and the entire community as the recomendations being proposed are to the staffing levels of lesser districts," one parent wrote to Arlington Heights Patch.
The parent went on to state, "the report also contains an analysis of the entire busing program, including proposed cuts."
