"I’m humbled by the confidence the residents of our great community showed in me at the polls yesterday and am excited to have the opportunity to lead Arlington Heights in the months and years to come," Hayes said.

"I’m disappointed of course. We set what the issues were in this campaign, and now Tom Hayes is going to have to take care of them," Drake said.
Drake said he called Hayes once the numbers were clear, and congratulated him.
"I am grateful for the good friends that I have made in this campaign," he said.
Hellner could not be reached for comment.
Once Hayes takes office, he will have to focus on filling the trustee seat he will be leaving vacant.
"Going forward, I will be exploring possible candidates to fill my soon to be vacant trustee seat. The objective will be to find an independent thinker with a demonstrated knowledge of village issues and dedication to the community who shares the Village Board’s philosophy of doing what’s right for all of Arlington Heights," Hayes said.
"I hope to be able to identify that individual and obtain the consent of the Board within 30 days of my swearing in on May 6," he said.
Four seats were open for trustee in the Tuesday election.
Incumbent trustees Thomas Glasgow, Joseph Farwell easily won, but Bert Rosenberg and Norman Breyer were neck and neck throughout election night. Rosenberg ended up winning by 22 votes.
And then, there is Jim Tinaglia, a newcomer to the village board who was the second highest vote getter, among the full field of incumbents.
“I am so happy and so exhausted, three months and a lot of work from a lot of folks, and it couldn’t be better. I’m proud and it’s an honor,” Tinaglia said.
Each of the seats has a four year term.
