Armed Group Attempts To Burglarize Car: Mount Prospect PD

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — A group of masked and armed suspects attempted to burglarize a car parked in the driveway of a home Tuesday before fleeing the scene in two vehicles. According to the Mount Prospect Police Department, the victim had captured the morning incident in the 1700 block of East Camp McDonald Road on security cameras.

The resident told police that when she went out to her Chevrolet Camaro for work, she noticed items from the glovebox were now on the floor of the car, as well as the driver's door being stuck and unable to open.

While reviewing video from her security cameras, the victim saw two cars — a light-colored sedan and dark-colored SUV — pull up to the front of the home at around 5:20 a.m. She said five people wearing masks exited the vehicles and approached the Camaro.

The resident said two of the masked suspects appeared to be holding handguns and may have been acting as lookouts as two others entered her vehicle. The victim said they all all returned to their vehicles a short time later and drove away, eastbound on Camp McDonald Road.

While nothing appeared to be missing from her vehicle, the victim noted the inside of the driver's door was damaged.

The five suspects are described as:

Suspect 1: possibly white, unknown gender, wearing a black-colored hoodie, black-colored pants, black colored shoes, black-colored gloves and a black mask covering their face.

Suspect 2: possibly white, unknown gender, wearing dark-colored hoodie, black-colored pants, and black-colored shoes.

Suspect 3: possibly white, unknown gender, gray colored hoodie, dark-colored pants, and black colored gloves.

Suspect 4: possibly white, unknown gender, black colored jacket with a hood, gray-colored pants, white-colored shoes, and carrying a black-colored handgun.

Suspect 5: possibly white, unknown gender, light green-colored hoodie, dark-colored pants, black mask, and carrying a black-colored handgun.

The Mount Prospect Police Department is asking anyone who has information regarding this crime to call the the investigations section at 847-870-5654. The police department said it will have an increased presence in the area.

Mount Prospect police are reminding the community, for safety purposes, not to confront anyone who is breaking into their vehicle. Instead, they recommend getting to a safe location and calling 911 immediately.
