Armed Robber Who Caused School Lockdowns Arrested: Hoffman Estates PD
2 men face charges, including a man police say was involved in another robbery in the same area that led to 2 school lockdowns days earlier.
HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL — An attempted armed robbery Friday led to the arrests of two men, one of whom is a suspect in a similar crime in the same area two days earlier that led to lockdowns at two nearby schools.
Devin Loving, 18, of the 1900 block of Haddam Place, was charged with felony attempted armed robbery in the Feb. 16 crime. He is also accused of felony armed robbery stemming from a Feb. 14 incident, police said. Semaj Bryant, 20, of the same address as Loving, was charged with felony attempted armed robbery in the Feb. 16 incident.
Both men were denied bond and are currently housed in the Cook County Jail. They are due back in court Wednesday. Hoffman Estates police said additional gun charges for each are forthcoming.

Police were dispatched at 4:47 p.m. Friday to the area of the 2300 block of Hassell Road for a report of suspicious individuals. The location was the same as an armed robbery that had occurred two days prior, which led to the soft lockdowns of two nearby schools.

While checking the area Friday, police saw two males matching the description provided by witnesses in the 1900 block of Governors Lane. Police said the pair appeared to be attempting an armed robbery of a person at that location. Police were able to take one of the subjects into custody at the location, while the second subject fled the area on foot.
The second subject was later taken into custody after a foot pursuit. Two firearms were recovered by police, a .22 Luger and a 9mm.
In the Feb. 14 incident, a masked man took a victim's purse while displaying a handgun. He then fled the scene eastbound on foot, which resulted in a large police presence in the area.
