Arrest Made In Fatal December Shooting: Hoffman Estates Police
Maurice Hill, 42, of South Elgin, died from gunshot wounds following an incident last month.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL — A Chicago man, who was taken into custody by U.S. Marshalls in Michigan, is being charged with first degree murder following a fatal shooting last month in Hoffman Estates. Joshua C. Hampton, 24, of the 3600 block of South Michigan Ave., was arrested in Kalamazoo on Jan. 11 and returned to Illinois.
On Dec. 16, 2003, Maurice Hill, 42, was found shot in the parking lot of an apartment complex and taken to St. Alexius Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. An autopsy revealed Hill succumbed to a gunshot wound to the face.
On Thursday, the murder charge was approved by the Cook County State's Attorney's Office for Hampton, who also had a warrant for a parole violation. Police said additional charges are pending in the case. He is due in bond court Friday.

Police said this an isolated incident and there remains no threat to the community.
