During a recent interview C.W. Goetz discussed his purpose for the show and for providing instructional content to his listeners regarding camping and paddling. Goetz states, “My purpose is to appeal to a wide range of skill levels. For the novice, I will introduce basic, fundamental skills and equipment necessary for successful and enjoyable paddling trips.” Continuing, “For those at an intermediate level, I will convey advanced methods of performing specific tasks and the best ways to deal with challenging situations, that they’ll likely encounter on more adventurous outings.” He provides a focus on canoeing and camping, specifically flatwater through Class II Whitewater, and on wilderness camping as well as “car camping, according to Goetz. Goetz discussed loving camping and paddling activities and finds both to be inspiring in the sense of being able to enjoy the outdoors. Stating, “I love the sense of freedom and being in touch with nature the moment one ventures away from the hustle and bustle of an urban environment.” Concluding his sentiment, “Being in a peaceful, tranquil surrounding allows for clearer thoughts and a time for reflection.”
Goetz has a music background, both as a percussionist who was once in a band, and as a creator of high quality snare drums. His background as a builder of snare drums was covered in “Modern Drummer” Magazine. According to C.W. Goetz, he “ jokingly uses the analogy of a famous 80’s guitar hero in the way that he hasn’t invented anything in terms of his camping and paddling expertise, but he has developed methods and techniques which one needs to know for both, into something much more interesting and practical for many.” His outdoor expertise in camping and paddling engages his followers on Instagram who “tune in” to watch his videos which cover both technique regarding both camping and paddling, as well as safety instructions for all.” HIs Instagram profile is available at www.instagram.com/cwgoetzoutdoors, and his website is www.cwgoetzoutdoors.com.
Having a focus on being able to have enjoyable and safe paddling excursions, Goetz summarizes “the most important thing to keep in mind with any activity where there is inherent danger as with any of the paddlesports is to do extensive research on the ones a person is interested in trying.” Concluding, “This affords the basic understanding of what to expect as well as the ability to realize the hazards and proper use of safety devices provided for each sport.”
Goetz summarized topics he will discuss through his online media content, to include, knowing how to properly fit a personal floatation device, taking the time to research one’s trip, scouting rapids before attempting to paddle them, always carrying a communication device, how to recover a boat if there is a capsize, and other instruction imperative information that one should know while planning an outdoor paddling excursion.”
