Congresswoman Duckworth Answers Questions on the Budget in Telephone Town Hall (Audio)

On Thursday, September 26, 2013, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) held a telephone town hall with her neighbors in the 8th District. They discussed federal budget priorities and a possible government shutdown. Duckworth also took questions on immigration reform, Social Security and Medicare and assisting military families and Veterans.
“This week I was supposed to be home in Hoffman Estates, but because of the threat of a government shutdown, I’m back in Washington,” Duckworth said during the town hall. “Your opinions and concerns are very important to me. That’s why I wanted this forum, to be able to connect with you while I’m in Washington, D.C.”
“There are very serious issues being debated over the budget, but that does not mean that we can’t sit down together and find a solution. I just completed my 22nd year in the Army. I’ve never faced a challenge during my service when I’ve responded by saying I’m giving up. That’s not the way we do things, that’s not the way Americans deal with the problems we face.”
