D-214 Education Association Names Scholarship Winner for 2011-12

Hersey graduate named in $500 scholarship.

Class of 2012 graduate, Katarzyna Pomian of Arlington Heights, is the winner of this year's District 214 Education Association Scholarship. 

Pomian was selected from a field of 35 outstanding District 214 applicants who have chosen education as their future career path.

The award is for $500 with a possible renewal for a maximum of four years or $2,000, if the recipient maintains academic eligibility in pursuit of a career in education.

"Kasia is a motivated, intelligent and respectful student.  She was a pleasure to teach throughout the year. Hersey teacher Tina Athanasopoulos said. "I am confident she will make a positive contribution to her future institution."

Mary Kemp, a Hersey science teacher, added, "Kasia works hard to ensure a thorough understanding, not simply for a good grade. She will definitely be a success in college."

Pomian will attend Loyola University Chicago this fall.
