Demand for Some Supermarkets Grows While Others Face Downsizing

The Daily Herald reports overall, there has been a decrease in supermarkets in the suburbs in recent years.

A demand for supermarkets, such as Meijer and Mariano's Fresh Market, has led to expansion in the suburbs while some supermarkets, such as Jewel-Osco, have faced downsizing in recent years, according to the Daily Herald.

Mariano's Fresh Market opened in recent years in Arlington Heights, at 802 East Highway, and last year in Palatine, 545 N. Hicks Road. A new Mariano's will be opening in Frankfort in coming weeks, according to Mariano's website.

The Arlington Heights location gets rave reviews on Yelp.com with shoppers who enjoy its produce section, which includes a wide variety of organic and locally grown fruits and vegetables and a fresh fruit juice bar, as well as other freshly made items, including sushi, soup and a salad bar.
