District 25 Teacher Contract Negotiations Postponed

Due to the goverment shut down, the mediator working with District 25 officials is not available for a previously scheduled meeting this week.

Teachers and officials in Arlington Heights School District 25 had a mediation session scheduled for this week, however, due to the U.S. government shut down that meeting is now in flux, according to the Chicago Tribune. Some of the federal workers handling local labor union issues have been impacted by the shut down, which is impacting District 25, the publication reports. The meeting will be rescheduled after the mediator is back at work.

The district announced mediation in August, when the teachers’ contract expired. The two sides have been negotiating since March. The teachers union has 45 memebers. Many school district that come to an impasse over negotiations choose a federal mediator to help, because they are free.
