Driver In Fatal Traffic Accident Cooperating With Cops: Schaumburg PD

A 12-year-old Palatine girl was struck and killed by a car Monday night while walking against a crosswalk signal.

SCHAUMBURG, IL — Police are continuing to investigate a Monday night traffic accident in which a 12-year-old Palatine girl was struck and killed while walking at Algonquin Road and Thoreau Drive. The driver involved in the incident is cooperating with the investigation.

The deceased has been identified as Angela Guan, who succumbed to her injuries after being taken to the hospital by paramedics from the Schaumburg Fire Department. Police said three people who were passing by the scene provided medical aid immediately before the paramedics took over.

Police said they were called to the scene of the accident involving one car at around 5:08 p.m. An investigation, including independent witness accounts, indicate the driver, a 65-year-old Cicero man, was traveling eastbound on Algonquin Road with a green traffic signal when Guan entered the roadway.

According to police, Guan was walking northbound against the crosswalk signal. There were no indications of impairment as a contributing cause of the accident, with final toxicology results pending.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, with coordination with the Major Case Assistance Team and Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team.
